Greetings Eastern Region!
We're getting close. As I write this, both Copper and Loveland have lane space for training and there are only 25 days until the World Cup races at Killington.  For those of you who didn't get a chance to go last year, Killington put on a great event.  I hope we can increase our record attendance numbers from last season.

I am very excited to be back with U. S. Ski & Snowboard.  We have a great staff, and we're busy laying plans for the upcoming season, organizing camps, fine-tuning the Regional FIS calendar and putting our travel calendars together.  It's shaping up to be a great season.

Now, Think Snow!

Eastern Region Staff
Patti Nichols is back as Eastern Alpine Manager, keeping the intent lists and entries straight.  She also wears many hats, helping all in the region put on great races.

Tom Ashworth has moved from the Eastern Youth Development Coach position to the Eastern Region Development Coach, focusing on the older athletes.  As in the past, the staff will cross over to help at any projects we have, if schedule allows.

I am very excited to have Kathy Okoniewski as our new Youth Development Coach.  Kathy brings a ton of experience to the position, having worked as the New York State Alpine Youth Coordinator,  a Program Coach and a U. S. Ski & Snowboard Clinician.  She has always produced excellent camps wherever she has been.  The East is lucky to have her on our staff.

Region Information

The U. S. Ski & Snowboard website is being updated as well as the Eastern Region site.  Look for the roll out at the end of October, early November.

Please, read the Eastern Region Handbook posted on the Eastern website.  We're all happy to answer any questions you have, but reading the handbook will answer most of those questions.

Officials Clinics
It's clinic time, so if you are an official it is time for updates.  We have changes with one of them being how to calculate an EET.  Check with your state director or chair for a schedule of Alpne Officials clinics and updates.
You can find a regionally compiled clinics here.
If you attend, an official's update out-of-region or division, be sure to contact your divisional officials chair to make sure you get credit.  Expect clinics to start after 15 October.  Some have already been run in region!

Educational Opportunities

Safe Sport
Coaches, please note.
SafeSport will be updating their general program, and coach's certifications may become "epired" on November 1.  You can avoid this by taking the Safe Sport Refresher.  This class/exam takes about a half hour, which is much easier than retaking the entire new course.

SafeSport also did a great webinar on Preventing Bulling Behaviors.  The archived presentation can be viewed here.
