The Head Coach will provide leadership and mentoring to the coaching staff and athletes in an enthusiastic and effective manner that helps the program achieve its goals. The Head Coach will set training and competition schedules, manage coaching staff, payroll and work with Operations and Snowsports to ensure effective utilization of the area’s resources.
The Head Coach will embody the King Pine Race Team mission, foster a safe, positive and fun environment for athletes of all abilities and promote an inclusive culture for all racers and their families.
Head Coach Responsibilities
• Communicate effectively with athletes and parents, coaches, ski area staff, and other clubs. Ensure information about training and scheduled events is communicated to coaches, athletes, parents and ski area management. Ensure that coaches are communicating race day and training information to athletes and parents with sufficient time to prepare. Ensure that racer entry information is submitted.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with other clubs. Attend eastern division Head Coach and NHARA meetings.
• Responsible for the hiring, management and support of coaching staff. Plan and recruit for future coaching needs. Manage staffing levels and payroll. Ensure coaching staff certifications and requirements are current.
• Perform an active coaching role on the hill, potentially as a lead coach for an age group, depending on availability and distribution of other coaches. Provide interactive instruction, drills, and guidance for racers as a group and on an individual basis.
• Attend races to represent and support athletes.
• Oversight of training activities. Consult with coaches weekly to plan and implement each day’s training activities. Ensure coordination with B-net installation, with help of parent volunteers.
• Oversee proper care and storage of training equipment, inventory and order equipment as needed.
• Organize and attend fall dryland training events.
• Responsible for hosting races including helping to organize and coordinate hosted races, ordering awards and ensure timely presentation of awards after races, participating as a race official as needed, and attending end-of-year banquets, and coordinate athlete recognition with other coaches.
• Communicate effectively and frequently with the General Manager and the Snowsports Director.
Qualifications:
• Previous coaching experience at U14/U16 Level
• Previous alpine racing experience
• USSA Referee level 1 certification
• USSA level 100 coach certification
• Physically able to handle the demands of the job- carrying gate bundles, standing on snow in varying winter weather conditions, etc.
